For example, until swelling and stiffness have subsided, avoid intense exercise and over-exertion. As you get back to your workout regimen, take it easy and try doing less repetitions or using lighter weights.

The key message to take away is to listen to your body. We can’t tell you how many patients we’ve seen that rush back to their regular routine after an injury without allowing their bodies to heal properly. Pain doesn’t always reflect your overall health and wellness, but when your body is hurting, listen to it.

In the first few days following a flip and fall, try incorporating ice therapy into your routine. Simply put an ice pack on the injured area for approximately 15 minutes, then remove it for an hour and repeat as needed. You can also take advantage of natural anti-inflammatories like turmeric, garlic, and ginger.
