Chiropractic Tips for Back to School
Back to school season is upon us and things are looking very different this year. Although different counties may be in different phases, many kids are heading back to the classroom. Beyond maintaining a patient and flexible mindset (yes, flexibility is important for your mindset too), here are some of our tips to help keep your kids safe this school year.
PROVIDE THEIR OWN SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Unless it is absolutely necessary, avoid relying on any communal school supplies. Ensure that your child has their own set of supplies and discuss boundaries when it comes to sharing.
DON’T SEND SICK KIDS TO SCHOOL
If your kid is showing symptoms or illness, don’t send them to school. If they are learning virtually and feel well enough, no problem with them logging in. But in-class learning? Keep them at home. Try to establish a routine for checking their temperature each morning and if they have a fever, they should stay home. If information hasn’t yet been shared, reach out to your child’s school to find out more about their sick policies for the school year.
HANDWASHING & HAND SANITIZER
We’ve been hearing it for months now, but one of the best ways to combat COVID-19 is by washing hands regularly and properly. Be sure that your child knows the proper way to wash their hands (click here for some tips) and that they wash them often. Be sure they have their own supply of hand sanitizer that is 60% alcohol or higher in case handwashing isn’t available.
FACE MASKS
Cloth face coverings are recommended by the CDC as a barrier to help prevent the spread of coronavirus by preventing respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the mask talks, coughs, sneezes, or raises their voice. These face coverings are an example of source control, so be sure to send your child to school with a few spares in case of damage or contamination. The mask should also be comfortable and fit properly.
