We’re sure you’re busy with Thanksgiving prep and as much fun as the holiday season is, it can also be a time of overindulgence, stress, and stomach aches. Here at Shields Chiropractic, we want all of our Saginaw patients to enjoy a happy and healthy holiday, so here are our tips.

DON’T FAST BEFORE YOUR FEAST

You might think you are saving on calories by fasting before your Thanksgiving feast, but it usually leads to overeating later. Start the day with a balanced breakfast so you can stay satisfied and energized throughout the day.

STAY HYDRATED

Proper hydration is always important, but particularly before a big meal! Being hydrated helps your body know if it is actually hungry or just eating to eat. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help suppress your appetite and to keep you from sneaking bites of pecan pie before the big meal.

DON’T RUSH

Did you know if takes about 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that it’s full? Most people overeat during those 20 minutes leading to stomach aches later on, meaning you should take your time as you eat. Pacing yourself during your meal can prevent discomfort later on and helps you truly savor your delicious dishes.

ENJOY A POST-TURKEY STROLL

After eating all that turkey, you probably feel like plopping down on the couch but a walk can help get your digestive system moving. Get your group together and take a short walk around the block. This will also help burn off some of the calories you’ve just consumed and is a great way to get your body moving after all that sitting.

GET ADJUSTED AT SHIELDS CHIROPRACTIC

If you are already a patient at our practice, you know that chiropractic has plenty of benefits. In fact, a well-timed adjustment may help make your holiday season even better! Not only will your body be more relaxed, but you will feel more energized and your body will enjoy a boost to the immune system. Adjustments can also help prevent injury and muscle pain so you can focus on a relaxing and enjoyable holiday season, not get held back by neck and back pain. We are here to help you enjoy a healthy holiday season and beyond, so click here to get started and schedule an adjustment with us at Shields Chiropractic.
